QUALIFICATIONS:- 
  • A degree of a recognized
  • Ability to read, write and speak in Bengali (not required for those candidates whose mother tongue is Nepali) – vide Finance Department’s Notification No.1243-F (P) dated 02.03.2016.

 

AGE:- 

Not below 21 years but not more than 36 years on the 1st January of the year of examination for

services and posts included in Group ‘A’ & ’C’ (i.e. born not earlier than the 2nd January, 1987 and not later than the 1st January, 2002). For the West Bengal Police Service only (i.e. Group ‘B’ Service) age not below 20 years but not more than 36 years on the 1st January of the year of examination (i.e. born not earlier than the 2 nd January, 1987 and not later than the 1st January, 2003). For services and posts

included in group ‘D’ the age should not be below 21 years and not more than 39 years on the 1st day of January of the year of the examination (i.e. born not earlier than the 2nd January, 1984 and not later than the 1st January, 2002).

The upper age limit is relaxable by 5 years for S.C. & S.T. candidates and by 3 years for O.B.C. (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates of West Bengal. In the case of Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD) (40% and above), the upper age limit is relax able up to 45 years. The S.C./S.T./O.B.C. candidates of other States shall be considered for Unreserved posts only.

WBCS Prelims Exam Pattern

 Two and a half hours are given to complete the WBCS preliminary exam question paper. Candidates who pass the preliminary exam are invited to the main WBCS exam. The prelims exam part is given out in the official notice. The following sections will be on the preliminary exam:

WBCS Prelims Syllabus 2024

The WBCS prelims exam is expected to be taken in June 2024 at various locations in Kolkata and other West Bengal districts. Candidates from the Darjeeling district’s Scheduled Tribe and those from the three hill subdivisions, Darjeeling Sadar, Mirik, and Kurseong, may only appear in the Darjeeling center. There are eight areas or themes in the WBCS Prelims Syllabus.

There are 200 (MCQ) questions in all, with 25 marks assigned to each topic. The duration will be 2.5 hours. All candidates are shortlisted for the main exam round based on their performance in the preliminary exam. The final merit list will not be determined without taking into account the results obtained in the WBCS preliminary exam. WBCS Mains Exam Pattern 2024

 The WBCS main examination is the most important component of the exam procedure since the final WBCS results are determined by the marks earned in the main exam. Six compulsory question papers and two optional subject papers are included. The WBCS exam consists of eight papers. The following question papers are included in the WBCS main examination.

WBCS Mains Syllabus 2024

Candidates who pass the preliminary exam and are eligible will be invited to take the WBCS main exam. There are six required papers in the WBCS main syllabus PDF and one optional topic that is split into two examinations. 200 marks are given for each main paper, and the exam lasts three hours for each paper.

Personality exam Syllabus

Every candidate who meets the requirements for the WBCS main exam is invited to the personality exam. The exam’s goal is to evaluate the candidate’s character traits, such as leadership, intellectual and moral integrity, logical and clear presentation skills, and awareness of a variety of topics.

Questions on topics of general interest to each candidate will be asked. Each service group receives different marks on the personality exam. The following defines each group’s personality exam marks:
